[Current Mood |highhigh]

Hi, I'm Jess and I was most certainly born in the wrong decade. I picture myself belonging in the 70s, and I have taken up quite an interest in that decade specifically. I know so much about it - the clothes, the music, the politics, the crazes and trends. Between reading about it online and asking parents and friends' parents of their experiences and memories, I have come to know a lot about it.

Besides that, my style is unlike most kids my age. I wear "bell-bottomed" jeans, Bohemian-style shirts, or band t-shirts. My favorite bands are all from decades before my own, with the exception of a few... but they are mostly folk, reggae or ska.

My favorites include The Beatles, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Van Halen, Sublime, Coldplay, CSNY, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, David Bowie, Boston, Aerosmith, Eric Clapton, Rush, Grateful Dead, Steve Miller Band, Janis Joplin, State Radio... etc, etc.

I am infatuated with peace, herbal tea, hemp and anything else coming from the marijuana plant :) I have my own variations of belief. I believe in & love Jesus but I don't always agree with the Catholic church, which is what I was raised in, and so I found my own way to express my religion.

I play the guitar and the piano, I write a LOT of music, and poems, and stories. I am also a photographer and my next camera I will purchase will be a vintage Nikon, and maybe maybe a Polaroid camera *crosses fingers.* I really dislike technology and I'd rather be in an open field with my guitar listening to nature and trying to play along.

HI THERE! [Jan. 20th, 2009|05:56 pm]
generational misfits

[Current Mood |chipperchipper]

Ohhh...Ok. HELLO!
I'm from Canada, and I'm 15.
I definitely think I'm born in the wrong generation.
I LOVE bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Pearl Jam (and the extra stuff Eddie Vedder did for Into The Wild), Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, CCR, Elvis Presley, Aerosmith, Rage Against the Machines, Damien Rice, She and Him, Arcade Fire, Soundgarden, Beck, The Guess Who, Bob Dylan, The Who...
Ohhh I can't remember any more :(

But living in the 60's/70's/80's/ even the 90's seems like a lot of fun. Better than now. The music then was absolutely amazing. YAY 20TH CENTURY!

Anyways, hope to get to know the community better. :)

Writer's Block: Found Objects [Jan. 8th, 2009|09:04 pm]
generational misfits

As the old saying goes, one person's trash is another person's treasure. What's the best thing—chairs, roller skates, old electronics—you've ever found that someone else had thrown away?
Best thing found? That's easy. A blonde wood 1950s coffee table with glass top thrown out as "hard rubbish" - it's in pride of place in my lounge room. What they throw out in the 'burbs in favour of Ikea - crazy!

What goodies have *you* found?

Hiya! [Jan. 1st, 2009|02:22 pm]

I'm a 23 year old from New Orleans, Louisiana. I was born in 1985 and still feel more in tune with that era then this one. Despite the love for materialism, I love 80's music and don't feel at all impressed by the emo music culture or the brash and violent rap they have out there. I also love the Beatles, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses, Poison, and other bad hair metal bands. All that music back then may have been cheesy, but it was about having fun.

Happy New Year [Jan. 1st, 2009|05:28 pm]
generational misfits

Hi. Im a 16 year old girl from England and I like to think that i was born in the wrong decade because this one is off-putting in quite a few ways for me.
I always find myself referring to people from the past, music from the past, past cultures and past philosophies. I connect with bohemian and 60's-ish fashion and also much of its culture such as liberty and peace.

I would love to live in a simpler or more peaceful time such as the 50's or 60's. It would also mean that I would be alive in the eras rich with REAL legends and REAL music.

I enjoy old music or music that has been heavily influenced from past musical elements and genres. I love classics such as Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash, The Doors (mostly Jim Morrison), The Mamas and Papas, Elvis Presley and Nirvana. I also love modern folk and alternative greats such as Ray Lamontagne, Damien Rice, Fiona Apple and She and Him (Zooey Descahnels band).

Here is a slideshow I have made in tribute to great and inspirational musical icons who have sadly passed away but will never be forgotten:

Song Credits:

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot sung by Zooey Deschanel
Album: She and Him - Volume One

Please feel free to add me and I will happily add you :)
